Artist T. Dart Walker’s 1900 Leslie’s Weekly Illustrated cover showed the House gallery reserved for the diplomatic corps, and gave readers a lively sense of the bustling and cosmopolitan nature of spectators in the galleries that ringed the Chamber. The newspaper identified some of the “distinguished representatives of foreign nations”: the popular Wu Tingfang of Imperial China, Chin Pom Ye of the Korean Empire, Sir Julian Paunceforte of Great Britain, and Baron Saverio de Fava of Italy.
