Small Business Committee Chairman Don Manzullo’s portrait reflects the committee’s custom of half-length portrayals against a simple background. Artist Vincent Chiaramonte used the rounded back of a chair to anchor the subject and at the same time provide a sense of depth and flow to the painting. Chiaramonte studied at Chicago’s American Academy of Art, and his earlier training in mortuary science gave him a grounding in anatomy evident in his handling of head and hands.
