Rather than fight Washington’s notorious traffic, Oklahoma Congressman P.L. Gassaway rode his trusty steed Dobbin to work. Gassaway served in the House from 1935 to 1936 and was so outspoken that he was challenged to a duel by an angry citizen who didn’t care for his criticism of another Member. After losing his reelection bid, the “Cowboy Congressman” returned to his home state and resumed his legal practice and ranching business.
