Henry González invoked the symbol of the Democratic Party on this metal tab, which would be folded in half and hooked onto the wearer’s clothing. The donkey was well established as a Democratic mascot although it was never officially adopted as a party symbol. The silhouette of the González pin, a standard design that could be printed with any candidate’s name and office, offered a sprightly image and inexpensive alternative to traditional round campaign buttons.
