Object Details

After its opening in December of 1857, the expanded Capitol building was of great interest to the public. This print illustrated one of the grand corridors surrounding the new House Chamber. The elaborately patterned encaustic tile floors, groin-vaulted ceilings, and decorative relief carvings on the walls were part of the overall decorative scheme that was in keeping with the most stylish Victorian tastes.
