The miserable weather at President Harrison’s inauguration is the dominant feature in this print from Journal Universal, a French illustrated newspaper. Harper’s Weekly had reported that the day “was as wet and miserable a day as Washington has seen for a long time,” but despite the visible sheets of rain, many umbrella-toting spectators are seen gathering at the East Front of the Capitol for the ceremony.
