Object Details

Representative Clare Boothe Luce spoke with Masilla Sabtho, a wounded soldier from Basutoland (now Lesotho) during a tour of Italy in 1945. Her travels in liberated Europe sharpened her concerns about Soviet foreign policy objectives. Before her service in the House, Luce was a successful magazine writer, editor, and war correspondent. Elected as a Republican to represent Connecticut, she served in the House from 1943 until 1947, and later pursued her interest in international matters as Ambassador to Italy.
