Sherwood Boehlert’s Chairman portrait for the Committee on Science is set in a closed space and aside from the chairman includes only a baseball. Unveiled in 2006, it depicts Boehlert against a warmly lit backdrop. The baseball in a display case on the surface behind the figure refers both to the Baseball Hall of Fame, located in Boehlert’s district, and to his personal love for the sport, particularly the New York Yankees.
