During an 1855 visit to Washington, D.C., as part of a delegation to discuss treaties with the United States government, Be sheekee had a portrait bust done by Francis Vincenti, a sculptor employed at the Capitol. A bronze bust based on this original portrait was made three years later by Joseph Lassalle, an artist working in the Capitol’s bronze foundry, and it was displayed on the House side. The bronze version of the Be sheekee bust includes highly detailed hair ornaments, and is adorned with a large medal—resembling “peace medals” historically given to Native Americans by the government—that includes information about the subject.
