Charles Halleck’s portrait was unveiled in December 1974, six years after he left the House. Halleck served three terms as Minority Leader before being unseated by Gerald Ford. At the informal unveiling, members of both party’s leadership spoke extemporaneously, recalling Halleck’s 34 years of House service, and his talkativeness. Said Minority Leader John Rhodes “Charlie, have you a few words?,” to which the crowd responded with knowing chuckles.
