Speaker Newt Gingrich’s unique portrait—the only one among the Speaker portraits set outdoors—was unveiled in 2000. Georgia-based artist Thomas Nash depicts Gingrich on a second floor balcony on the West Front of the Capitol, overlooking the National Mall. Also unusual, the subject holds papers entitled “Contract with America”; specific legislation is rarely referenced in commemorative portraits.
