This lithograph is one of five remaining small, oval-framed prints of Speakers in the House Collection. The acquisition date is unknown, but this print appears in stereoviews of the Capitol dating from the 1870s. The inscription, however, provides information about the making of the object; the portrait was both made “from life” by artist Charles Fenderich and printed in 1841.
