This small portrait of Speaker John Taylor was reportedly made at the request of Speaker Nathaniel Banks. It was copied after a painting owned by Taylor’s relatives by an artist referred to as “Gibson.” This miniature was subsequently copied by Caroline L. O. Ransom in a larger format, to be displayed among the portraits in the Speaker’s Lobby.
