The accomplished likeness of Oren Harris, former Chairman of the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, by Harry Louis Freund was the first official portrait in the committee’s history. Harris, a native of Arkansas, represented his state for 13 Congresses, and resigned to become the United States District Judge for Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas. Freund is well-known for his series of paintings and murals of 1930s life in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and Missouri.
