From 1913 until 2001, many debates on the House Floor were delivered from this lectern which stood on the east side, or Democratic side, of the House Chamber's well, the area just in front of the rostrum. The lectern features an adjustable brass neck and a channel to conceal microphone wires. Its twin was placed on the west side of the well and used by Republicans.
