Unveiled in 2003, Bradley Steven’s portrait of James Madison replaced the House’s Gilbert Stuart portrait of the Founding Father and important early Representative that was destroyed in an 1851 fire. This portrait, painted after a work by Charles Willson Peale, was unveiled at the same time as the replacement John Quincy Adams portrait.
