Taking an unusual route, the painting of Public Works Committee Chairman John Blatnik was unveiled at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts rather than in the House. Artist William Draper had painted President John F. Kennedy for the National Portrait Gallery eight years before. Draper was a popular portrait artist who studied at the Art Students League and served as a Navy combat artist in the Pacific during World War II.
