The portrait of Ways and Means Committee Chairman Wilbur Mills was unveiled on July 16, 1958. This is the last of the five works by artist Boris Gordon commissioned by the committee. Gordon emigrated from Switzerland in 1907, and later enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in World War I. After his military service, he settled in Washington, D.C., and established himself as a portrait artist.
