Boris Gordon completed Ways and Means Committee Chairman James Collier’s portrait in 1933. Typical of Gordon’s portraits from the mid-20th century, the subject is depicted seated and half-length, with an indeterminate background and limited anecdotal detail. The artist enjoyed considerable popularity in the House of Representatives, particularly with the Ways and Means Committee, and five of his portraits currently hang in its hearing room.
