Jere Cooper’s portrait, the fourteenth for the Ways and Means Committee, was unveiled in 1956. According to a New York Times report, it was paid for by his fellow committee members, who each contributed $135 to the cause. The artist, Boris Gordon, enjoyed considerable popularity in the House of Representatives, particularly with the Ways and Means Committee, and five of his portraits currently hang in its hearing room.
