Object Details
Ways and Means Committee Chair Robert Doughton had his portrait painted by Boris Gordon in 1946. Typical of Gordon’s portraits from the mid-20th century, the subject is depicted seated and half-length, with the upholstery of the chair blending with the abstract pattern of color of the background. The artist enjoyed considerable popularity in the House of Representatives, particularly with the Ways and Means Committee, and five of his portraits currently hang in its hearing room.
