More than 20 years after his death, the first Chairman of the Space Committee (later the Committee on Science and Technology) Overton Brooks was honored with a portrait commemorating his service. Artist Jean Pilk—who was also working on Don Fuqua’s Chairman portrait for the same committee at the time—received the commission. The simple composition offsets the figure, giving emphasis to the map of his home state of Louisiana in the background.
