The chair in this painting’s background is the spot from which every Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee has wielded the gavel. Chairman Billy Tauzin’s portrait shows the seat of authority, at the center of the elaborately carved committee rostrum. The red curtains, brass fittings, and walnut veneer precisely reflect the hearing room’s appearance during Tauzin’s four-year tenure as chairman.
