This painting is the first of Charlen Satrom’s two portraits of Don Young. She created this version to commemorate his service as Resources Committee Chairman, surrounding Young with the Native Alaskan artifacts and images of his home state. A painted or woven textile creates a dramatic backdrop for the image of Chairman Young, perched on a desk behind a glass case of native objects.
