This image was one of a group acquired in 1972 to celebrate the Small Business Committee’s chairmen. The year before, the House gave its Select Committee on Small Business a new status. The newly named Permanent Select Committee responded by acquiring portraits of all four chairmen, from its beginnings in 1941 up to the 1970s. This representation of Walter Ploeser shows him when he wielded the gavel in the late 1940s. Washington artist Lloyd Embry took an existing photograph of Ploeser and colored it with thin pigments.
