Thirty years after artist Jesse Treviño was wounded by a Viet Cong booby trap, he painted the Congressman who helped bring him home. In 1967, Henry González heard that the budding artist from his congressional district was seriously injured and arranged for his return to Texas. Decades later, Treviño, a seminal figure in the Chicano art movement, commemorated González’ tenure as Banking Committee Chairman in this portrait.
