Jack Brooks spent 42 years on the Judiciary Committee, with six as Chairman, and drafted the articles of impeachment against President Richard Nixon. His portrait by Jason Bouldon, unveiled on October 29, 1997, captures his vigorous and forthright demeanor. Posed standing and shown nearly full-length, the legislator known as the "meanest man in Congress" gazes sternly at the viewer, his characteristic cigar in hand. The slight turn in his stance and other hand in his pocket, however, soften the pose, giving his no-nonsense look an air of casualness.
