Jack Brooks spent 42 years on the Judiciary Committee, with six as Chairman. His portrait by Jason Bouldon, unveiled on October 29, 1997, captures his vigorous and forthright demeanor. Posed standing and shown nearly full-length, Brooks gazes sternly at the viewer, with his characteristic cigar in one hand. The slight turn in his stance and other hand in his pocket soften the pose, though, giving his no-nonsense look an air of casualness. A gavel rests on the otherwise empty table behind him.
