Object Details
In the 1950s, the Agriculture Committee assembled portraits of many of its chairmen. The first fruit of that effort is this painting of Marvin Jones, one of many works by Boris Gordon in the House Collection. The flatness of the figure and the neutral background were typical of the artist’s work in the 1950s. Jones began his congressional service as a relatively young man of 31; his portrait reflects his appearance at the time he departed the House in 1940.
