The portrait of Agriculture Committee Chairman Hampton Fulmer is one of two posthumous portraits in the House Collection by Dalton Shourds. She created this painting for the Fulmer family, who presented it to the House in 1962. When she came to Washington in 1959, Shourds was known primarily from solo shows in Louisiana’s and Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. She later turned to book illustration as well as teaching.
