Object Details
Brummett Echohawk painted fellow Oklahoman James Jones to mark the latter’s service as House Budget Committee Chairman. Echohawk served in World War II as a military sketch artist and subsequently attended the school of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts and the Art Institute of Chicago. His career included acting and writing as well as newspaper illustration. Echohawk’s comic strip Little Chief appeared in the Tulsa World. In this painting, the artist takes a straightforward approach to portraiture, placing the subject against a white background with an American flag over his shoulder.
