Victor Lallier’s portrait of Budget Committee Chairman Brock Adams was one of several paintings he made for the House of Representatives. In this work, Adams poses before a credenza and office chair. Adams holds eyeglasses and papers, as if he has been interrupted in the act of perusing budget figures. Fittingly for a committee that pores over figures, sharpened pencils stand ready for action, atop a stack of books and ledgers.
