Object Details
Taken in 2016, this image shows Hawaii Representative Mark Takai in a conventional pose for congressional photographic portraits. The photographer used a digital camera to capture the Representative. Unlike House Collection photographs created before the 21st century, the resulting photograph is a born-digital file, rather than a physical print. Takai prioritized small businesses, protecting the environment, reforming student loan debt, and improving veterans’ care during his short time in the House, but his political career ended abruptly when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Mark Takai died on July 20, 2016, at his home in Honolulu.
