Object Details

The Doormen’s Society was founded in 1969 by employees of the House Doorkeeper, a House officer who controlled access to the chamber. By the time of their 7th annual picnic in 1975, the society was an influential group that presented awards to deserving Members of Congress and staff at a formal dinner on Capitol Hill. The picnic, by contrast, took place in more pastoral surroundings, with families in attendance and door prizes handed out.
