Collection of the U.S. House of Representatives
Patsy Mink distributed this pamphlet during one of her early reelection campaigns. The front shows Mink wearing leis—clearly signifying her connection with her Hawaii district—superimposed over a blue-toned image of the House Chamber. The pamphlet also contains a biography, family photo, and a letter stating her commitment to issues including ending the war in Vietnam, alleviating hunger, and fighting discrimination. Designed as a single layout, the interior includes numerous images of Mink at work. The emphasis on images reinforces her identity as the first woman of color in Congress, while references to the many liberal issues she championed reflects her ideological commitment.
