At the turn of the 20th century, the House Restaurant used durable cups and saucers from the Onondaga Pottery Company. The company produced Syracuse China, a type of vitreous dishware named for the location of the factory in New York. The vignette of the Capitol with a ribbon reading “House of Representatives” shows one of the company’s innovations: Onondaga Pottery was the first U.S. manufacturer of china to have an in-house lithographic printer, which efficiently produced custom-decorated dishware.
