This cover of Puck pokes fun at Representative William Holman of Indiana and his relationship with the New York Sun. The cartoon shows Holman accosting the Sun’s famous editor Charles A. Dana for the publication’s ham-handed endorsement of him as a presidential candidate. A week earlier the Sun wrote about Holman, “His peculiar, almost singular, certainly striking characteristic is simplicity. He is simple almost to carelessness in dress . . . utterly lacking in . . . self-consciousness . . . and . . . plain of speech.”
