Object Details

Every Representative receives an official pin each Congress; this one from the 101st Congress is special. When Ileana Ros-Lehtinen received it, it marked the first time a Hispanic-American woman served in Congress. The custom of issuing Member pins began in 1975 as a quick way to identify Representatives on the crowded Capitol campus. A new version is issued each Congress, varying the color and design and updating the Congress number, but retaining the eagle and shield of the Great Seal of the United States.
