Object Details

This rare button was not used for one of Shirley Chisholm’s many campaigns in her Brooklyn district, nor was it for her famous run for the 1972 presidential nomination. However, as the slogan suggests, Chisholm was running to chair the House Democratic Caucus. She actively campaigned for the position in 1976, an unusual move that aptly illustrated her determination to be a leader in the party. She ultimately lost to Tom Foley.
