Robert Nevin distributed this button in the early 1900s, during one of his several successful campaigns to represent an Ohio district in the House. Campaign buttons were a new part of electioneering at the time, but Ohio already had a home-state manufacturer: Pettibone Brothers, a leading distributor of ceremonial regalia for clubs and fraternal organizations. Nevin may well have patronized Pettibone on a number of fronts. A prolific club enthusiast as well as a lifelong politician, he belonged to the Masons, Knights Templar, Scottish Rite, Knights of Pythias, and the Society of Elks.
