With its border of embossed, gold-foiled eagles, and skillfully colored ombré sky, this July 4th postcard pulled out all the stops. Colorful and shiny, holiday postcards like this enjoyed great popularity during the “golden age” of postcards, between 1907 and 1915. Throughout this period, Americans sent hundreds of millions of postcards to each other. Some, like this example, were never mailed, but collected and stored in albums.
