In this issue of The Shadow, the cloaked detective solves the mystery surrounding the fictious Congressman Layton Coyd. The adventures of The Shadow—crime fighting alias of Kent Allard—thrilled readers from 1931 to 1949. Author Walter B. Gibson wrote the magazine under the pseudonym Maxwell Grant. Gibson—who also ghostwrote a book for magician Harry Houdini—wrote The Shadow out of dozens of tight situations.
