The adventures of The Shadow—crime fighting alias of Kent Allard—thrilled readers from 1931 to 1949. Author Walter B. Gibson wrote the magazine under the pseudonym Maxwell Grant. Gibson—who also ghostwrote a book for magician Harry Houdini—wrote The Shadow out of dozens of tight situations.
