For at least four decades, politicians used the phrase “If I were 21 I’d vote for . . . ” on campaign items like this celluloid lapel pin. Abner Mikva’s version, printed in red and white, most likely dates from his 1968 congressional campaign. Mikva ultimately held positions in all three branches of the federal government, serving as a Representative, a federal judge, and White House Counsel.
