Joseph John Gill’s campaign printed this special ribbon for the 1899 Ohio Republican Congressional Convention, and the extra effort turned out to be a good idea. After 56 ballots on the convention’s first day, Gill remained in second place. It took 299 ballots for Gill to win the nomination. He was elected that November, and in the following two Congresses.
