Martin Gantz served a single term representing Ohio, and distributed the most popular campaign accessory of the period—the campaign ribbon—to his supporters. Cheap to produce and easy to transport, ribbons were ubiquitous by the 1870s. By the time this fetching red example was made, the ribbon’s days were numbered. Buttons began to take over by the end of the 1890s.
