This tin “Budget Bank” gave a nod to Congress’s fiscal responsibilities with an image of the Capitol set between slots for coins. The maker, Louis Marx and Company, was the pre-eminent American toymaker of the mid-20th century. While the congressional piggy bank is not well known, other Marx toys—Rock'em Sock'em Robots and Big Wheel tricycles—are legendary.
