Members of Congress on the 1898 ticket were former Speaker Galusha Grow and Representative Samuel Davenport. Grow was nearing the end of his on-and-off congressional career. During the Civil War, he served as Speaker, and was known for adamant anti-slavery views. His hiatus from Congress was remarkably long—31 years passed between stints as a Representative.
