Albert Thomas was the leader of the Democratic Caucus and a powerful member of the Appropriations Committee. When the Rayburn House Office Building was completed, the House decided to honor the ailing Thomas by naming the new gymnasium for him. At the dedication ceremony, the Speaker of the House unveiled this portrait, painted by popular artist Victor Lallier.
