Object Details
In 2016, the House unveiled a portrait of Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers of Kentucky. In the painting, the chairman holds a gavel, one of the most familiar symbols of authority in House portraits. Behind him, a bookend in the shape of an eagle holds up a biography of 19th-century House Speaker Henry Clay, a fellow Kentuckian.
