Wyoming Representative Paul Greever distributed this ink blotter during one of his re-election campaigns in the 1930s. “A man from the plains and mountains, a typical Westerner,” according to one colleague, he was sought for advice on livestock, mining, and irrigation. Ink blotters like this one were popular campaign giveaways in the early 20th century. Printed information gave a candidate’s information on one side, while the absorbent paper on the reverse ensured that the card would remain on a desk for weeks as a continuous reminder of the candidate.
